Drytac, an international manufacturer of adhesive-coated products, has announced that Paul Barker will fill its newly created position of custom coatings account manager-outside sales, for Drytac Canada.

Barker has more than 28 years of outside sales experience in the plastics, printing and packaging markets, and has spent the last 10 involved in the printed pressure-sensitive label market.  Prior to that, he worked in the injection and blow moulding industry with Reliance Products in Winnipeg and spent 14 years in plastics conversion and polypropylene manufacturing with Transilwrap Canada and AET Films U.S.

Boehmer Box, a Kitchener-based folding carton manufacturing plant, has installed a manroland sheetfed format 6, 56” R908 HiPrint press.

The Boehmer Box facility spans over 320,000 sq. ft. and produces 700 million cartons annually. The company also specializes in full-scale packaging production, shorter carton runs, product samples,  promotional and test marketing kits. >>

AVT, an Israel-based print process control company for packaging, labels, and commercial print industries, is teaming up with Montreal-based Global Vision, a proofreading technologies designer, to offer advanced offline inspection systems.

Global Vision will provide AVT with new software for the systems, which are customized to suit the specific needs of the printing industry, and its varying production workflow setups and printing applications. Together the companies plan to develop products for the labeling and packaging marketplaces. The partnership will also enable AVT to serve as Global Vision’s print market sales arm.

Nilpeter, a Denmark-based a narrow web print provider is broadening its Canadian reach by assigning Nilpeter veterans Fran Mayo and Robert Wray to represent the company in the region. The Eastern region of Canada from Ontario east will be represented by Mayo, and the west by Wray.

3M has launched its first graphic industry contest: The Extreme Wrap Challenge, to recognize the work of fabricators and installers across the Country.

Between April 22 and July 31, Canadian sign shops can enter the Extreme Wrap Challenge by uploading high-resolution images of a project using 3M graphic films and explain what makes the project “extreme.” Entrants must list an installer and are eligible for a monthly random draw for a $100 branded prepaid card.

The Canadian Printable Electronics Industry Association (CPEIA) and the Packaging Consortium (PAC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore how printable and organic electronics can help Canada’s packaging industry.

The MOU is a non-financial commitment between the two organizations to work together on various initiatives over the next two years, including participating in technical working groups and educational events such as webinars, technical seminars and trade shows.

Avanti Computer Systems Limited, a print management software provider, has appointed John P. Alden as vice president of sales, responsible for leading sales and business development efforts worldwide.

Alden comes to Avanti after 17 years at Xerox Corporation, where he spent the last four of those years as production color sales director.

Social Print Paper, an affiliate of Royal Printers, a family-owned commercial printing business, is making news with its environmentally friendly paper made from waste derived from wheat farming. The Wheat Sheet is made in Northern India, and contains 60% wheat straw fibres and 5% wood fibre from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship. Canopy, a Canadian non-profit is even stating that straw from North American wheat production is enough to save 830 million trees each year. Read more on Business In Vancouver.com.
